Explanation
1
Overture to Candide (4:36) Candide 》overture was composed by Leonard Bernstein, a conductor and composer. In the beginning, all kinds of energetic music jump in with brisk and vibrant notes, making people can’t help but use their hands and feet to clap with beats of the overture. This overture includes several sections of different rhythm connecting with each other because it is an arrangement from Voltaire’s 《Candide》musical play overture. That’s why the whole musical elements are rich and diverse. During New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra’s ice-breaking concert trip to North Korea in 2008, they chose this brisk overture to encourage people to remove barriers in their hearts.

Sea of Wisdom (7:30) Sea of Wisdom》is a work from Japanese composer Shimizu Daisuke. This music starts with a serene rhythm to represent sea in the morning. Clarinet mimics sea gal’s voice and French horn’s melodious rhythm presents the view of a ship setting sail to sea. And then, beats start to speed up gradually to bring out a magnificent view from the orchestra’s exquisite melody. This is then followed by alto saxophone’s graceful performance section. It seems that the sea is taking care of people with its warm affection, just as a mother does to her child. We’d like to present this wonderful music full of watery image to Sun Moon Lake.
3
